News and events at the Fonda Public Library

We are LOVING February at your Fonda Public Library!  Throughout this month we are enjoying our ever-popular Blind Date with a Book event!  Simply choose a wrapped book that looks interesting, take it home, read it, and return the slip inside, telling us what you thought of your blind date!  Remember what Mama always said…you should only date one at a time! So… only one blind date book per visit!  Whoever goes on the most dates in each category wins a prize at the end of the month! This event gives everyone a chance to try books they might otherwise not try, so come and find a new book or new author to LOVE!!

We recently received some great news from the Pocahontas County Foundation!  We were approved for a grant to acquire a Cricut Easy Press, and two Virtual Reality goggles!  The Easy Press will allow our patrons to make some great t-shirts, using our Cricut, and the Virtual Reality goggles will provide some great technology opportunities for our youth this summer!  Many thanks to the Pocahontas County Foundation for making it possible to bring all this great new technology to the patrons of our county!!

Our youngest readers just LOVE our Preschool Storytime, which meets on Mondays, at 10:00 am. This month we discussed Groundhogs & Shadows on the 4th, and look forward to learning about Valentines Day on the 11th, and Dental Health on the 25th.  The library will be closed on Monday the 18th, for President’s Day, so we will not have Storytime that day!!  Come enjoy some great books and fun activities with your friends at the library!

This month’s Wednesday Movie Matinees will be Lego Ninjago Movie (PG) on the 6th, Sherlock Gnomes (PG) on the 13th, The Lego Movie (PG) on the 20th, and Mulan (G) on the 27th.  Come relax every Wednesday afternoon at 4:00, for some great snacks & movies with your friends!

In February our Adult Book Discussion Group will be Stars Over Clear Lake, by Iowa author Loretta Ellsworth. With this book we travel back to the Surf ballroom. With our soldiers shipping off to war, many decisions in life and love, were made at this memorable spot.  Our book club will meet on Thursday, February 28th at 7pm to discuss this book. Please call or stop in, if you would like a copy to read.

Our computer class will meet on Tuesday the 12th, and Tuesday the 19th at 4:30 pm.  Come learn about computer tech with people who LOVE surfing the web!!

Every Friday is Color Me Relaxed Friday – come in and enjoy some relaxing music, while coloring your stress away!  We’re coloring Valentines, and have lots of coloring sheets that you can color or take home to do later, so stop in and start a relaxing new hobby!
