We’re still enjoying the summer at the Fonda Public Library!
This month our Summer Reading Program focused on our Teens, with our Teen Book Club! We enjoyed reading the book Echo, by Pam Munoz Ryan. In this book, 3 sister’s souls were trapped in a harmonica by a witch, and the only way for them to be freed is for them to save a life. This book follows the harmonica as it travels through WWI, The Great Depression, and WWII, and includes actual songs at the beginning of each chapter, to teach you how to play the harmonica!
The first week we made harmonicas out of craft sticks and rubber bands, and had a great dessert, provided by Emily Mercer – Thanks Emily! The teens were challenged to think up an escape room puzzle pertaining to music, to share on our last week together.
The second week we made musical keychains with Perler beads, and had some really fabulous creations! The last week we discussed the book, then tried to solve our Escape room puzzles! Emma Erickson came up with a really great one – which even included some diversions, to throw us off the clues! Very clever Emma! We had a great time, and solved a total of 3 musical puzzles – great brainwork everyone! After our puzzles, each of the teens got a harmonica, which was bought with a very generous donation from the Fonda Town and Country Boosters! Thank you, Boosters! They LOVED learning the harmonica, and were playing some great tunes within minutes! We’re sure they’ll continue learning even more in the months to come!
