News and events at the Fonda Public Library

We‘re holding onto the last of summer at the Fonda Public Library!  Throughout the month of June, our children enjoyed the Summer Reading Program, Build A Better World.  Then, in July, our Teens enjoyed our Teen Book Club!  Now it’s our Adult’s turn!  Throughout the months of August and September, read and watch movies, to fill out our Adult Summer Reading Bingo!  What a fun way to end the summer, with some reading incentives for our loyal adult patrons!  Many thanks to Caseys, for once again, providing us with some great prizes!

Speaking of reading incentives - Kids, be sure to get your reading sheets turned in by Aug 31st – so you can collect on all the great prizes available!  We’ve had great participation this summer, with kids winning a treat from Caseys, a Subway Fresh Meal, a Buffet meal from Pizza Ranch, a Rialto Theatre ticket, a Blank Park Zoo pass, 2 Iowa Cubs tickets, and a King’s Pointe waterpark pass!  Thank you to all the great businesses that helped inspire our kids to READ this summer!!

This month we are excited to welcome Jacquie Marietta on Tuesday, Aug 22nd at 4:30 pm.  Jacquie will talk about all the different scams out there, and show us how to spot Medicare Fraud.  Our regularly scheduled computer class will meet at 5:00, immediately following the program.  Join us for an informative time!

We continue to enjoy our 4:00 Wednesday Movie Matinees, and the great snacks that go with this fun weekly event!  This month, we watched Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (PG), Balto (G), and Cats & Dogs (PG).  On August 23rd we will be watching Sky HighigHi (PG) and on Aug 30th, our movie will be Matilda (PG)!  Top off your summer with some great snacks & movies with your friends!

Our Adult Book Discussion Group is reading Kabul Beauty School, by Deborah Rodriguez.  In this true story, based on actual experiences, we get a glimpse into the lives of women in Afghanistan, and what life is like, lived behind the veil.  We will be meeting on Thursday, Aug 24th at 7pm to discuss this book. Please call or stop in, if you would like a copy to read.
